Bottled water for tea, country by country

Still waters to compare, with source analyses, dates checked, and a way to suggest corrections. Choose a starting point, then let the tea decide.

Updated

A shortlist for comparison

Our suggestion is to compare two waters with a familiar tea. The directory below gives you bottles and their published profiles to start from. It is not a ranking or a record of teas we have tasted with every water.

Countries identify the waters’ origins; availability varies by shop and export market. Check the exact variant and source on your bottle. Each profile carries its own source links and date checked. If your label differs, use ‘Report an issue’ to send us the correction.

Read the numbers together

Mineral values below are in mg/L. The total preserves the source’s measurement basis: TDS, total mineralisation, or dry residue. The methods differ, so these are related rather than interchangeable measurements.[1] A dash means a value has not been verified; it never means zero.

‘Source checked’ records when we reviewed the cited material. ‘Record updated’ records an edit to this directory. Neither date claims that the water was sampled or laboratory-tested on that day. Sample dates and conversions are noted where relevant.

Our starting suggestion: choose a low-bicarbonate water, then compare it with a more mineralised profile. Treat that as a tasting experiment. The numbers describe the water; your cup determines whether you enjoy the combination.

THE WATER DIRECTORY

Find the bottle. Check the source.

Published mineral profiles, kept with the exact water variant and the date we checked its sources. These are source records, not our tasting results. Unknown values stay open for correction.

All values are in mg/L. Total dissolved solids, total mineralisation and dry residue are preserved as reported. A dash means a value has not been verified; it does not mean zero.

Figures in mg/L use matching French and German brand analyses. The UK page gives a different profile: calcium 12, magnesium 8 and bicarbonate 74 mg/L. Identify the source and analysis on your bottle; a brand name alone is not enough. [4][5][6][7]

70–150 · total mineralisation———

Total mineralisation converted from the producer’s 0.07–0.15 g/L. The producer lists calcium and magnesium ranges without units and does not quantify bicarbonate; those fields await a readable bottle label. [8][9][10]

Figures in mg/L from the February 2026 NSF report for a January 2026 source sample. Bicarbonate is reported as 28.21 mg/L as CaCO₃ and converted to about 34.4 mg/L HCO₃ using 61/50. Total alkalinity is 29 mg/L as CaCO₃. The consumer FAQ separately states typical TDS of 62 ppm. This sample is not a guarantee for every bottle. [11][12][13]

Find the water you prefer

Our suggested comparison: use the same leaves, vessels, temperature and timing with two waters. Taste both as they cool. Compare aroma, texture, bitterness, sweetness and finish over several infusions, and record the exact bottle and profile alongside your recipe.

Keep the water constant while adjusting a recipe. Once you know the tea, change the water as a separate experiment. A bottle that works for one tea may be less convincing with another, and your preferred cup matters more than a ranking.
